This was not the case a few years ago. Today, smartphone photography has taken a leap forward and made this quote a cliché. Everyone wants everything, right away: The satisfaction of posting a snapshot photo, a #foodgram or even informing 1000 of our closest friends on Facebook that we are on our way to our vacation in the Canaries! It's no surprise that 400 million people are active on Instagram every day.
The origins – The evolution of telephone use: from simple calls and SMS to a tool that fits in our hand and can contain our entire life
Smartphones are becoming more efficient, leading to better quality photo sensors. The world of telephony has evolved a lot: the time when we could charge our phone just once a week is well and truly over, or the time when we tried to determine if what we had taken in a photo was indeed our cat or our best friend.
Fortunately for us, times have changed and today we can see through our photos how fresh our arugula from this afternoon was. The popularity of smartphones has grown with the arrival of the iPhone and its 2 million pixel camera. Apple is doing its best to stay on top, with half of their annual keynote spent touting the virtues of their new sensor. Android closes the loop with the new Google Pixel 2 smartphone which, according to some, has a better quality sensor. (apologies to iPhone users, no offense!)
But there are still some limitations
No matter how good the smartphone and its sensor are, there will always be limitations compared to a good old SLR camera. However, this is a fairly fair observation, since a SLR cannot fit into the back pocket of our pants!
Whether we are passionate about music or photos, whether we spend time on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Kindle and many others in addition to our usual calls and SMS, all this has consequences on our smartphones! That said, human beings are becoming more and more intelligent and have invented external batteries. We can only congratulate ourselves!
