Evelyne and I are originally from Switzerland, but despite this we have never really gone to see the famous Matterhorn mountain in the municipality of Zermatt. While the weather forecast looked incredibly good, we were hoping we could find some beautiful fall colors there. So we decided to take the next train right after our classes, on a Friday afternoon.
When we arrived in Zermatt, it was already dark so we decided to go to bed early to make sure we could make the most of the next day! We planned to wake up at 5am to take the train from Gornergrat to Riffelee. The aim of this trip was to capture the sunrise as well as the morning atmosphere from different perspectives. But first, we were able to enjoy a superb view by train during this one-hour journey at an altitude of 3000m! The scenery was unreal and we did our best to capture it from different angles!
When the sun was up, we started climbing to the top of Gornergrat mountain. We hoped to escape the tourists so that we could find places hidden from everyone to take photos.
We ended up finding this beautiful rock formation with which we tried to show the size of the glacier and the mountain in the background. Superb, isn't it?
Further down the valley we visited the commune of Zermatt and it was already time to go home.
On the way back we stopped briefly to see the beautiful Oeschinensee lake and stayed to watch the sunset hoping that all the tourists would already be in the valley. We were lucky, just us and a few fishermen stayed. A perfect end to a successful day. Certainly better than being locked in class all day 😉
We can't wait to come back here for more adventures!
