What best represents the Christmas spirit is jumping in your car and going to visit one of the oldest and most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe.
Well that’s what we did! Strasbourg, here we come!
We crossed the Channel by taking the Eurotunnel to get to the Hotel La Cathédrale in Strasbourg where we were very lucky to be upgraded to a suite fit for kings! The view from our room was INCREDIBLE. Yes yes, that’s the cathedral right in front of us! (which woke us up most of the time, but let's not shatter all dreams) We also had a view overlooking the Christmas market and were very excited to go visit it!
The first day, we visited a magnificent place called “La Petite France” or Little France for short.
Even outside of the holiday season, the houses and buildings give us the impression of belonging to elves or fairies and CLEARLY to Santa Claus.
Some houses even look like those made of gingerbread by the British and in which we would dream of living. It's an incredible painting.
As night gradually fell on the city, we decided to head to the Christmas market! Finally ! There, we set ourselves challenges like: “Who among us can buy the ugliest Christmas accessory?” It was super funny!
(For the record, I ended up wearing reindeer antlers on my head for the rest of the evening).
It was nice to walk around, drink mulled wine and look at all the bright little trinkets to bring back for grandma. We were even on time to see the lighting of the big tree. We were able to dance around and then we headed towards the Cathedral.
It’s HUGE, so grandiose!
And the street that leads there is like something straight out of a fairy tale! With the beautiful Christmas lights passing through it and the bakeries lining it, it's definitely a place you have to visit!
The best thing about visiting Europe is finding cool things to do, for free. The bill can add up very quickly!
Luckily for us, walking around the pretty cobblestone streets, looking at the traditional gingerbread houses adorned with their overflowing Christmas decorations and seeing that this place looks like our childhood dreams was enough for us. It was time for Santa to arrive.
On the banks of the river which crosses Strasbourg, the houses are also decorated. It is possible to take a boat trip there if you want to stay warm!
We're in the holiday spirit now and more than ready to celebrate Christmas! We are thinking of bidding on one of the gingerbread houses. We are ready to move in tomorrow.
